Textron Systems unveils cloud-based intel software

Textron Systems has unveiled its web-based RVcloud intelligence software engineered to improve cloud-based services for analyzing imagery, graphic features and data systems processing, company officials said.

This latest iteration of the software, offered as an upgrade to existing services now provided to the U.S. military, extends core electronic light table capabilities offered by previous RVcloud versions, company developers said.

“RVcloud consists of an HTML 5-based browser application coupled with a collection of highly performant web services that efficiently stream image data across the network. As the adoption of the RVcloud has increased, so has the requests of our customer base, Matt Morris, Textron Systems geospatial solutions director of integrated solutions, said in a statement. The product is a web-based version of its geospatial intelligence software, RemoteView. RVcloud moves many of RemoteView’s features to the cloud, he added.

“We are currently working to implement RVcloud with the military services who use our flagship product, RemoteView,” Morris said.

Decreasing a hardware footprint by consolidating data-centers and servers is entirely consistent with the Pentagon’s push to move more services, applications, storage systems and functions to a cloud-based architecture; this is particularly relevant in light of DOD’s initiative to integrate more commercial IT systems and move more Joint Regional Security Stacks (JRSS) functions to the cloud.

Along these lines, users of RVcloud can perform change analysis, viewing and comparing up to eight images simultaneously with mosaic, two color multi-view, blend and other analysis techniques. A new external overview window provides context and an additional way to navigate imagery, a Textron Systems statement said.

“Users are able to interact with full-resolution, geo-referenced imagery within an intuitive interface,” a company report stated.

The new RVcloud 1.3 enables an enterprise integration which includes an ability to drive an image viewport and export graphic features.

“Our customers expressed their desire to move to the cloud and we were able to build upon the legacy of RemoteView to meet that need through the development of RVcloud,” Daryl Madden, senior vice president and general manager of geospatial solutions, said in a statement.
