US Increases Value of THAAD Sale to Saudi Arabia to $5.4Bn

Lockheed Martin Corp., Missiles and Fire Control, Dallas, Texas, is being awarded a firm-fixed-price, $1,473,941,756 modification (P00019) to previously-awarded contract HQ0147-17-C-0032 for the procurement of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) Interceptor support items in support of the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) case to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

The value of this contract is increased from $3,890,665,224 to $5,364,606,980. One offer was solicited with one offer received.

The work will be performed in Dallas, Texas; Sunnyvale, California; Huntsville, Alabama; Camden, Arkansas; and Troy, Alabama.

The period of performance is from July 19, 2019, through July 31, 2023. KSA FMS funds in the amount of $340,940,179 are being obligated at time of award.

The Missile Defense Agency, Huntsville, Alabama, is the contracting activity.

(EDITOR’S NOTE: This and other sales of US weapons to Saudi Arabia are the object of political infighting between US President Donald J. Trump, who is pushing for more sales, and Congress, where many are opposed.
Trump bypassed this opposition by declaring these sales to be a national emergency, which allows him to forego congressional notification.
In response, the House voted on Wednesday to block President Donald Trump’s emergency weapon sales to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Politico reported, “delivering a rebuke to U.S. strategic allies over their involvement in Yemen’s civil war and alleged human rights abuses.”
But, as “Trump has already threatened to veto all three resolutions, which passed the Democrat-led House with minimal Republican support,” there is a good chance that they will be completed.)
