ISIL’s massive assault on northern Aleppo ends in failure

Location of Kafr-Saghir, where ISIS claim to capture

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) – alongside Liwaa Al-Badr (Badr Brigade) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – were able to restore all the points they lost to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the Aleppo Governorate’s northern countryside on Sunday after a wild 12 hour battle.

ISIL began the day with a surprise assault on the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses at the important villages of Babinnis and Kafr Saghir in northern Aleppo.

Following a short firefight, the Syrian Armed Forces withdrew from Kafr Saghir after ISIL infiltrated their front-line positions, resulting in the collapse of their defenses.

With ISIL in full control of Kafr Saghir, the Syrian Armed Forces in Babinnis found themselves cutoff from all major supply routes and under attack by the terrorist group.

Luckily, ISIL’s second assault on Babinnis was repelled, giving the Syrian Armed Forces the opportunity to go on the offensive and recapture all lost points.

The Syrian Armed Forces did just that, liberating Kafr Saghir and its nearby checkpoints after a short battle with ISIL on late Sunday afternoon.

Video footage from the battle showed ISIL fighters abandoning their positions and retreating east in order to evade the swarming soldiers from the Syrian Arab Army.

According to several field journalists, the Syrian Armed Forces have now recaptured all lost points after ISIL retreated to the Al-Bab Plateau.
