The United Kingdom has awarded a GBP1.1 billion (USD1.6 billion) contract to Ascent for helicopter training across all its armed services, it was announced on 20 May.

The new contract will see the purchase of 32 new helicopters from Airbus, the construction of new training facilities and infrastructure, and the training of over 250 military helicopter pilots and rear crew every year until 2033.

Provision of military pilot training for the UK armed forces is outsourced to industry under the UK Military Flying Training System (UKMFTS) programme, first awarded to Ascent in 2008. The new contract for helicopter training follows on from the award of a GBP1.1 billion contract to Ascent in February for the fixed-wing portion of UKMFTS.
