Egypt has received the first of two Mistral helicopter carriers, which were bought last year for about $ 1.1 billion.

Cairo is planning to purchase 46 attack Ka-52Ks for the ships, with delivery expected by the end of 2017.

France had originally built the carriers for Russia but canceled the deal over Russia’s annexation of Crimea and involvement in the Ukrainian conflict.

The first vessel has been named Gama Abdel-Nasser, after Egypt’s president during the 1950s and 1960s, according to the Associated Press.

The second, which will be named Anwar al-Sadat after Nasser’s successor, is expected in September.
