The verdict was issued during a hearing on Saturday at the Cairo Criminal Court. At the same hearing, six defendants, including two Al-Jazeera journalists, were sentenced to death for reportedly spying for Qatar, too.
Two prominent leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mohamed Badie and Khairat el-Shatera, were also sentenced to 25 years in jail on the same spying charges, Al Jazeera reported.
The trial was held in the presence of security forces in the Police Academy in downtown Cairo.
Morsi, of the Muslim Brotherhood, had already been sentenced to death on May 17 in a case stemming from his and more than 20,000 other inmates’ escape from prison in 2011.
Morse was ousted in a military coup in July 2013 after mass protests calling for an end to his divisive one-year rule.
Muslim Brotherhood activities have been banned across the country and thousands of their supporters have been arrested on various charges.
