Lockheed Martin‘s and Northrop Grumman‘s joint venture, Longbow LLC, received a nearly $ 90 million contract from the U.S. Army to upgrade fire control radars on Apache helicopters. This will extend production at the companies’ facilities through January 2019.
The contract includes the production of 84 radar electronics units and software upgrades.
The radars provide Apache aircrews with automatic target detection, location, classification and prioritization, according to a press release. This enables rapid, multi-target engagement in all weather conditions over different terrains and through battlefield obscurants.
