Russia to Deliver First Four Su-35 Fighters to China This Year

KOMSOMOLSK-ON-AMUR, Russia --- The Gagarin Aircraft Plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur in the Khabarovsk Territory in Russia’s Far East will deliver four out of 24 Sukhoi Su-35 (NATO reporting name: Flanker-E) fighter jets to China before the yearend, Regional Governor Vyacheslav Shport said.

"As many as 24 Su-35 planes are expected to be produced and shipped to China in 2016-2018. Four Su-35 fighter jets are planned to be delivered to China in 2016," Shport said at a ceremony of opening a new aluminum alloy working shop at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant.

It was reported earlier that a contract for the delivery of 24 Su-35 multipurpose fighter jets to China had been signed in November 2015.

The deal is estimated at more than $2 billion.

Head of Russia’s state hi-tech corporation Rostec Sergei Chemezov said in March that the deliveries "will not start this year."
