Italy's Top Court Orders Retrial of Ex-Finmeccanica Executives In India Bribery Case (excerpt)
In April, a Milan appeals court sentenced former Finmeccanica CEO Giuseppe Orsi to four and a half years in prison for corruption and falsifying invoices, overturning a previous lower court ruling.
Bruno Spagnolini, former head of the group's helicopter unit AgustaWestland, was sentenced to four years in jail over the 560 million euro ($585 million) contract.
The case went to the highest court after the two executives launched an appeal. (end of excerpt)
(EDITOR’S NOTE: The two former AgustaWestland CEOs were initially cleared of most charges by a tribunal in Busto Arsizio, then sentenced to jail terms by the Milan appeals court despite a lack of evidence – the reason why the Court of Cassation has broken its verdict.
The case will now be sent back to the Milan appeals court, where it will be judged by another bench.
We will return to this development shortly)
