Rudaw talks with Americans on the day of Trump's inauguration

NEW YORK — Rudaw's Majeed Gily interviewed Americans on the streets of New York on Friday, the day of Donald Trump's inauguration as the 45th president of the United.

"Trump is likely to endorse an independent Kurdistan, if that step comes," one man remarked.

On the topic of an independent Kurdish state,  "The Kurds have suffered long enough without having an independent state."

They added that the lack of the US acting as a direct negotiator at the upcoming Astana peacetalks is indicative of current US foreign policy in the region.

When asked if Trump will tell Iraq to choose between Iran.

"Being unpredictable is the most important in negotiations," a man said. "It depends on whether the US wants to send more troops. If the US doesn't send more troops, Iraq will be lost to Iran.
