Bangladeshi PM visits Rohingya refugees

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid an emotional visit to Rohingya from Myanmar seeking refuge in Bangladesh. She pledged her government’s assistance to offer temporary shelter and aid, but urged Myanmar to act quickly to take them back.

She stressed she would not allow any insurgencies to use Bangladeshi territory to launch their activities.

The Arakan Rohingya Solidarity Army (ARSA) first emerged in 2016 to fight for the rights of the Muslim minority in Myanmar. The recent flood of refugees was caused by an army crackdown after ARSA fighters killed 12 security officers, according to state media in Myanmar.

ARSA has proposed a ceasefire but the government has rejected it, saying they do not negotiate with terrorists. ARSA denies it has any links with Islamic terrorist groups.
