Since 9/11, our struggle with jihadism has been largely focused in the Middle East. But while large and looming threats remain ever present in that region, jihadist forces have been rising on the continent of Africa. Al Qaeda and ISIS have spawned such groups as Boko Haram and Al Shabaab that are spreading their influence across the Sahel, the Horn of Africa, and beyond.
Yet, we hear little to nothing about these groups, their efforts and their attacks, in the mainstream media — even as a recent study shows that African jihadists are increasingly attacking Western targets.
In Episode 9 of FDD‘s podcast Foreign Podicy, host Cliff May talks with Daveed Gartenstein-Ross to discuss these evolving and innovative threats, and what can be done now to stop — or at least slow — their rise.
Foreign Podicy is a podcast project by FDD focused on the most consequential foreign policy and national security issues facing the United States today. You can learn more about the show on their web site. You can also subscribe to the show via iTunes, Google Play and Stitcher.
