Kurdish opposition party won't condone attacks on Iran embassies

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) said it doesn't condone attacks on diplomatic missions, following assaults on the Iranian embassies in Paris on Friday and Athens on Monday.

"PDKI does not condone attacks on Iranian embassies anywhere in the world," the party in opposition to the Iranian regime tweeted around noon on Monday.

Ten anarchists from the Rouvikonas group in Athens threw bottles of paint at Iran's Embassy in Greece on Monday morning.

"Our values and actions separate us from the Islamist regime in Iran. We cannot act like the regime does and hope for a better and different future," added the PDKI.

Rouvikonas was quick to claim the attack on Facebook.

They said continued "brutal repression" of Kurds starting with the Islamic Revolution in 1979 has resulted in thousands of dead Kurds, leftists, and communists.

Rouvikonas noted the recent executions of "three Kurdish rebels" by Iran, an apparent reference to the recent hangings of Ramin Hossein Panahi, Loqman Moradi, and Zanyar Moradi — all were charged for allegedly belonging to Komala.

Greek daily newspaper I Kathimerini reported police are investigating Rouvikonas for the incident which occurred in the suburb of Palaio Psychico.

Iranian state media blamed 15 Kurds affiliated with Komala for an assault on their embassy in Paris on Friday. Windows were stoned, the Iranian flag burned, computer parts smashed, and embassy signs painted red (Komala's party color).

Komala, a communist party, has not claimed responsibility or rejected the incident.

They along with the PDKI and other Kurdish opposition parties had a joint operations center in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region's city of Koya struck by at least Iranian six missiles on September 7. Seventeen Kurds, including leadership, were killed and 46 were injured.

The United Kingdom called the missile strikes a disproportionate use of force.
