EXCLUSIVE: First Glimpses Of How Indian Navy’s Abhilash Tomy Was Rescued

The first images of Indian Navy adventure sailor Commander Abhilash Tomy’s dramatic rescue in the southern Indian Ocean last month have surfaced. And they’re terrific.

A French language (subtitled) video published by French seafood firm SAPMER (which commissioned the Osiris fishing patrol vessel that reached Tomy) contains footage of the final leg of the rescue mission on September 24. Here’s the full video with a detailed account of the call the boat received and how it finally conducted the difficult final rescue. These are the first images from the dinghy that was deployed, and what they saw when they reached Tomy’s stricken boat:

Commander Tomy returned to India earlier this month after being picked up from the Ile de Amsterdam by Indian Navy frigate INS Satpura.
