Pegasus:Multiscope UGV debuts at Eurosatory

Milrem and Leica Geosystems debuted the Pegasus:Multiscope off-road unmanned ground vehicle Monday at the Eurosatory defense expo in Paris.

It is the first unmanned UGV for off-road use and will open up new applications in surveying, monitoring and security, the companies said in a statement.

The new vehicle combines Milrem's Multiscope UGV with Leica Geosystems' Pegagus:Two mobile mapping sensor platform, resulting in a faster, cheaper and more flexible technology that can be used for commercial and security purposes, the companies said.

It will help eliminate risks when surveying difficult terrain for civil engineering or agricultural products, or in hazardous areas such as nuclear facilities or war zones.

The UGV features low ground pressure, allowing it to travel any terrain, including mud, sand or snow, the companies said.

It can be programmed to follow a predtermined route, offers change detection that can be seen to within 2 centimeters and is available with thermal imaging.

Milrem also debuted the THeMIS unmanned ground vehicle at Eurosatory on Monday.

MMP ground combat missile in series production
Paris (UPI) Jun 14, 2016 - Europe's MBDA has started initial series production of its MMP land combat missile for the French military, the company said Tuesday.

The MMP, or Missile Moyenne Portée, is a medium-range weapon that is to replace the French army's Milan and Javelin anti-tank missiles from 2017.

MBDA said 2,850 are to be produced for France.

It is a "fire-and-forget" missile with a a range of more than 4,700 yards. It features a dual-mode seeker and a fiber-optic data link, making it possible to maintain man-in-the-loop control, and the system can be integrated into vehicles.

"This capability gives it unmatched accuracy and minimizes the risk of collateral damage," MBDA said. "The missile's multi-purpose military charge [anti-tank, anti-personnel and anti-infrastructure] can defeat targets ranging from heavy tanks with reactive armor to infantry entrenched in an infrastructure and can be integrated on four different platforms."

The program for development of the MMP began in 2011.
