South Korea has reportedly received its first four AgustaWestland AW159 Lynx Wildcat helicopters, according to local media reports in that country.
The reports said the South Korean Navy hopes to deploy them by mid-2017 after testing. Four more are expected to be delivered by the end of this year.
The Navy ordered the aircraft in January 2013 in a $ 589 billion deal. It chose the Wildcats over Sikorsky’s MH-60R Seahawk as its new multi-mission maritime helicopter. Initial delivery was expected for 2015, but a corruption scandal surrounding the maritime helicopter purchase involving former Adm. Choi Yoon-hee led to delays.
