Kurdish man recalls losing friend trying to rescue dogs in Grenfell tower fire

A Kurdish man named Alan spoke to Rudaw about the fire that has left 58 people dead in London's Grenfell Tower.

"When I arrived, I only saw ashes in a place that is full of pleasant and unpleasant memories," Alan said.

He eagerly  is still checking up with his friends and neighbors

"When you live in a place for 20 years, certainly you know most of the people around," he said.

Alan recalled his friend Steve who refused to abandon his dogs and returned inside the building only to parish in the flames.

Seventy-nine people are confirmed to have died in the blaze, which engulfed the tower full of public housing flats on June 14.

Four Kurdish families were living in the London apartment tower that was engulfed in a deadly fire on June 18. Two of the families survived while the fate of the other two is still unknown.

Gitti Hassan, a Kurdish woman from Iranian Kurdistan, also survived the fire along with her children.

The reason for Grenfell tower incident is still unclear.
