‘Little Kurdistan’ Nashville rallies for independence referendum

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – With cries of ‘We want freedom,’ Kurds in the American city of Nashville, known as Little Kurdistan because of its large Kurdish population, rallied in support of the Kurdistan independence referendum.

They were joined by other Americans who expressed support for the Kurdish cause.

“America has no greater friends… than the Kurdish people,” said journalist Jim Gilchrist.

“Americans need to support the Kurdish people because the Kurdish people support us,” he added, noting that Kurds and Americans fight side-by-side.

Beth Campbell, of the Republican National Committee, noted that Kurdish values and American values have a lot of common. “We support them 100 percent,” she said.

Kurds living overseas will be able to vote electronically in the referendum. Registration will open September 1 through to September 7 in advance of the vote on September 25.
