Shwedo tapped to be new Joint Staff CIO

The president has named Air Force Lt. Gen. Bradford Shwedo to head the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s command, control, communications, and computers (C4) and serve as CIO (J6), the Defense Secretary James Mattis announced April 25.

Shwedo is currently the Air Force’s information dominance chief and CIO under the service’s secretary, a position he’s held for the past year. Before then, Shwedo was the Air Combat commander for the 25th Air Force at the Joint Base in San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. He was also U.S. Cyber Command’s previous director of capability and resource integration, J8.

Shwedo would replace current J6 CIO and C4 Director, Vice Adm. Marshall Lytle III, who was charged with developing C4 capabilities for the Joint Staff chair and advising the Joint and Combined Forces.
