Members of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), one of the largest security forums in the Asia-Pacific region, have raised concerns over North Korea’s latest nuclear, rocket and ballistic missile tests.

A statement issued in the Laotian capital of Vientiane by ARF Chairman Saleumxay Kommasith to wrap up a 26 July meeting between representatives of the forum’s 27 participating nations – including the 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the EU and other regional powers – said “the ministers shared concern over current developments in the Korean Peninsula”.

These developments included North Korea’s nuclear test on 6 January, its rocket launch on 7 February and its ballistic missile launch on 9 July, “all of which are in violation of the UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions”.
