Lockheed Martin has delivered the final Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk to the U.S. Navy as part of the Navy’s Foreign Military sales program with the Royal Australian Navy.
The agreement was made in June 2011 for Australia to acquire 24 new-generation, multi-role naval combat aircraft to replace the fleet of S-70B-2 Seahawks. Since then, its navy embarked three flights and conducted both the first Hellfire Missile shoot and DIPEX anti-submarine exercise with the aircraft, said Royal Australian Navy Commodore Scott Lockey.
The aircraft’s primary mission is anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare. It also is capable of performing search and rescue, vertical replenishment, naval surface fire support, logistics support, transport and medical evacuation. The sale to Australia marked the first for a U.S. Navy MH-60R Seahawk.
